Kole Peplinskie - Intro to Flatstitch Beading - October 28th 2023 - 10AM to 5PM

*Classes are given in person, at Wööl, emporium de laine, in Montebello.

• Level : Beginner
• 6 hours workshop
• Language : English with helper for french participants
• Material : Each participant will receive a kit with beginner beading essentials, but feel free to bring your own seed beads if you have a specific colour in mind.
• This workshop will teach participants the basics of flatstitch beading using the 2-needle method to create either a pin, a stitch marker or a pair of earrings. This workshop is open to anyone, whether you have any previous experience or not! Folks of all backgrounds and genders welcome - in Anishinabe and many Indigenous cultures beadwork is not just worn or enjoyed by women but by everyone! We will also have an open discussion about the significance of beadwork in Canada and how to practice this art in a culturally mindful way.

Kole Peplinskie (they/them) is an Anishinabe beader and textiles artist currently living on the unceeded and unsurrendered Algonquin territory, colonially known as Ottawa. Kole has been creating art in various capacities their whole life, but more professionally starting in 2018. They primarily create beadwork pieces through the brand Rustling Pine (@/rustlingpine on Insta), where they sell handmade jewelry and accessories for folks of all gender expressions. They have also had a few pieces shown in galleries across the nation, including their piece “Grassroots” which was shown at the Carleton University Art Gallery’s To Be Continued: Queering the Archives exhibit in 2020-21.
