About Arounna Khounnoraj and « Bird & Flower »
« Bird & Flower » is inspired by Arounna’s love for nature. She is interested in the shapes and colors and uses them in her imagery of made-up flowers. Arounna feels that the graphic and bold forms bring a modern touch to the artwork with reference to vintage work.
This edition is filled with serenity and beauty. The play of colors and the texture of Julie Asselin's wool warms our hearts. This is the second time that we have collaborated with Arounna and it is always a big pleasure.
Arounna Khounnoraj is a Canadian artist and maker working in Toronto. She immigrated to the Canadian city from Laos, with her family, at the age of four. While her education includes a master’s degree in fine arts, sculpture and ceramics, it was through subsequent residencies that she found her current focus in fiber arts. In 2002 she and her husband John Booth established Bookhou, a multi-disciplinary studio. Arounna explores screen printing and various textile techniques such as embroidery, visible mending and quilting.
